Biba and I at our morning coffee spot
Although I hadn't been riding for over a week and my ankle was still swollen and sore I decided I still wanted to compete in Whistlers Showcase Showdown.
My friend Biba just got into town and was competing as well so we were relaxed and ready for a fun day. This also happened to be my last day in Whistler before heading home! Our first lap we went and checked out the course that Charles Beckinsale had built. As usual the jump was big and perfect. I tried not to focus on the fact he had cut out so much of the jump there was only 5ft of knuckle before the landing! It was a jump you definitely didn't want to come up short!
The wedge
After two laps in our heat Biba and myself made it through to the finals along with Molly Milligan. It was dumping at this stage and the speed was getting pretty slow. I was lucky that I landed all of my runs and secured myself in 1st. Biba also did amazing landing herself in third place. Congrats Biba!! I am flattered that the announcers seemed to take a liking me - or my front board at least as it was the most talked about trick all day. They ended up calling me their 'Golden Girl' which is so funny! In my last run I really shocked them by hitting the middle pole over the close out gap, which I hadn't hit all day, and stomping a front blunt 270. Longy coined the quote of the day from the comp announcer.. " Pretty sure we should change the best trick format to whatever dude does a better front board than Jess Rich" Thanks Showcase, Charles and all the park crew that helped out, AWESOME COMP!
